Locksmith Software

Challenge: Design a software solution for a large lock manufacturing company, enabling a global network of locksmiths to create lockcharts and order security system components.

Role: I provided UX direction by conducting user research and stakeholder interviews on-site at the client's Belgium office, mapping user journeys by analyzing existing tools and processes, designing and testing interactive high-fidelity prototypes, and presenting research findings and designs to a board of international business stakeholders onsite.

Designing a software solution for the largest lock manufacturer in the world is no easy task. Over 200 companies have been acquired since its formation, and with each new company has come a different set of tools and processes used to create lockcharts and order hardware. The goal of this project was to design a single Master Key System to be used by all companies under the brand.

Lockcharts are traditionally created in a static table, displaying the relationship between locks and keys as intersection points on an x/y axis.

The biggest challenge was creating a dual view that displayed the same data set in both a grid and tree layout.

This prototype is an early proof of concept demonstrating how each element in a lockchart can be inspected to highlight its security access.
